Meet Dr. Steven L. Shore

Dr. Shore is a native of Philadelphia, PA, and attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree in history in a simultaneous 4-year program. He graduated with Honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in his junior year.

He then attended medical school at Johns Hopkins, which he finished in 3 years, earning election to Alpha Omega Alpha and won the Lange Medical Book award for academic excellence. His training in general pediatrics, internship and residency, was at Boston Children’s Hospital (Harvard). He completed a one year fellowship at the University of Sheffield (U.K.) doing influenza research. He then completed a two year fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases and immunology at Emory Medical School.

He also was a medical researcher in immunology and virology at the Centers for Disease Control from 1968-1981, where he was the Chief of the Cellular Immunology Laboratory. He entered private practice in pediatrics at Sandy Springs Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in 1981 in the practice of both general pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases.

He founded the division of infectious diseases at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, now a part of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and was the chief of this division from1981-2015. His chief medical interests relate to children with herpes simplex virus infections, recurrent infections and immune deficiency, Kawasaki disease, and fever of unknown origin. He has practiced pediatrics for more than fifty years and loves helping children with both simple and complex problems. He is a senior partner here at Sandy Springs Pediatric and calls upon his extensive experience and knowledge to care for patients every day.
